COLIN ANDERSON

Colin has dedicated his career to the energy sector. As a Professional Engineer with an MBA and over twenty-five years’ experience, Colin has extensive knowledge of the electricity industry. He has demonstrated capability in all areas of the business and has achieved success in resolving executive-level strategic and tactical issues.
Currently, Colin is the President and CEO of the Association of Power Producers of Ontario (APPrO). APPrO represents generators operating in the province of Ontario, and a variety of organizations and individuals concerned with generation. APPrO members include developers, suppliers and consultants to power enterprises, both public and private, with an emphasis on implementing reliable, affordable and sustainable energy systems in Ontario and around the world.
Previously, Colin was the President of the Association of Major Power Consumers in Ontario (AMPCO). AMPCO is a not-for-profit consumer interest advocacy organization with members representing Ontario's major industries.
Colin has previously worked as a power plant engineer at a large generating company, a design engineer at a power generation sector OEM, a management consultant at a major consulting firm and a regulatory professional within the energy sector.
PATRICK BEATTY
Director, Canadian Affairs and Global Policy, INVENERGY
Patrick is responsible for the Canadian public affairs and global public policy for Invenergy, North America’s largest privately held independent power producer. He has a decade and a half’s worth of experience in politics and the energy sector working on public policy issues, stakeholder engagement, regulatory affairs, and Indigenous consultation. He also currently serves as a board member for the Clean Energy Association of British Columbia (CEBC).
Prior to the private sector, Patrick worked for a member of parliament and a cabinet minister in Ottawa. He is a co-founder of the Young Diplomats of Canada and has represented Canada at the Youth G8 in London and the OECD Forum in Paris. Patrick holds his Master of Public Policy degree from the University of Calgary’s School of Public Policy.
CHRIS BENEDETTI

Chris Benedetti is a Principal with Sussex Strategy Group, and Head of its Energy and Environment Practice. With experience in both federal and provincial governments, Mr. Benedetti provides an in-depth insight and expertise into various policy development and political processes, and brings to Sussex an extensive background in strategic communications and public affairs.
Since 1999 he has led client efforts related to energy-related policy, regulatory and procurement matters. This work has led to the successful development of over 4.5GW of generation in Ontario, in addition to extensive experience in distribution and transmission. He is a Past Chair of the Recycling Council of Ontario, has served on the Program Advisory Committee for the Sustainability Programme at Ryerson University, and is a Past President of the Public Affairs Association of Canada. Prior to joining Sussex, Mr. Benedetti was Vice President and Government Relations Practice Leader for a global public affairs and communications company. He has also held several positions in the federal government with the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and as a political advisor within the House of Commons and the Senate of Canada.
Mr. Benedetti holds a BA in law and a BA (High Hons.) in political science from Carleton University, and an MA in political science (International Relations) from McMaster University and the University of Bath, England.
SARAH BRESOLIN
Director, Government & Regulatory Affairs, ENGIE
Sarah Bresolin is Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs at ENGIE North America Inc. In this role she advises on a variety of issues including grid scale renewable and distributed generation development, energy storage and green hydrogen in the United States and Canada. Previously, Sarah practiced energy law in Massachusetts for many years as an Assistant Attorney General and consumer advocate for the Massachusetts Attorney General and as regulatory counsel at the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities. Sarah also served in the Obama Administration as Assistant Chief Counsel for environmental regulation and international trade at the U.S. Small Business Administration. In November 2023, Sarah was elected as Chair of the New England Power Pool for 2024. She was also appointed by Massachusetts Governor Baker to sit on the Commonwealth’s Grid Modernization Advisory Council. Sarah serves on the board of the Canadian Renewables Energy Association.
JAN BUIJK

Jan Buijk is the CEO of AB Energy Canada Ltd., a Canadian company that is specialized in providing energy solutions with best in class gas engine technology for clean energy projects such as CHP, biogas and other gaseous fuelled power generation applications.
Over the past 25 years Jan has had engineering, project management and direct sales and marketing responsibilities for many of the reciprocating gas engine based CHP, district energy, and other distributed generation projects currently in operation in Ontario and across Canada.
Jan received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Utrecht in The Netherlands, where he also wrote a thesis on the use of landfill gas for power generation applications.
Jan is a director of APPrO, a former director of OSEA and CDEA, and holds a director position with the Decentralized Energy Association of Canada.

Pelino Colaiacovo is a Managing Director at Morrison Park Advisors, an independent investment bank located in Toronto. Since joining MPA in 2005, Pelino has focused on assisting clients in the energy, utilities, infrastructure and public sectors to meet financial and strategic challenges, including mergers & acquisitions, capital raising, restructuring and project partnerships.
Prior to joining MPA, Pelino was Chief of Staff to the Ontario Minister of Energy from 2003 to 2005. During that time, he assisted in significant restructuring of the Ontario electricity sector, including the drafting and implementation of new legislation, the creation of the Ontario Power Authority, and significant procurements of new electricity generation capacity for the province.

Lou Colangelo is General Manager of Toromont Energy Limited, which owns and operates clean and renewable energy power generation assets in Ontario. Toromont Energy’s core business is to design, build, own and operate high efficiency power plants using leading edge power generation technologies.
With more than 40 years of experience in Ontario’s electricity sector, Lou engages directly in development and execution of renewable energy, CHP, energy storage and district energy projects.
Contributions to the energy and electricity sector has been as an active participant on APPrO’s Working Group on DERs, helping draft submissions for OEB review and supporting various IESO initiatives through stakeholder engagement sessions.
Lou is a trusted energy advisor and long time member of the Association of Power Producers of Ontario serving on both the APPrO Board of Directors as well as Markham District Energy Board of Directors.
CHARLES CONRAD
Senior Manager, Energy Origination & Development, TC ENERGY
Charles Conrad is currently Senior Manager of Energy Origination and Development at TC Energy.
In over a dozen years at TCE, he led TCE’s financial modeling supporting Bruce Power’s negotiation of a 50-year PPA supporting a multi-billion life extension project at North America’s largest nuclear plant, helped close eight utility scale solar farm purchases, worked on projects involving a wide variety of generation and storage technologies, and is active in commercial/strategic/regulatory aspects of project development. Prior to TCE, Charles spent a dozen years (the latter six as part of ownership) in a mid-market sell-side advisory firm, leading or co-leading over 10 closings, participating in over 60 marketing engagements and over 120 business valuations.
Charles holds an MBA in Finance from the Schulich School of Business at York University, a BSc in Biology from the University of Waterloo, an LLM (Masters of Law) in Energy and Infrastructure from Osgoode Hall Law School, and is a Chartered Business Valuator.
PAT DALZELL

Patrick Dalzell is the Director of Government and Stakeholder Relations at Bruce Power, a role primarily focused on the development and growth of the corporate identity through government and stakeholder engagements, public communications and the advancement of internal innovation.
Patrick started his career at Bruce Power in 2011 as a Senior Financial Trader where he worked on the Geographic Diversification Initiative to develop new trading strategies and optimize regional diversification. In 2015, he embarked on a new position with Bruce Power working alongside the Chief Investment Officer helping to oversee the investment and risk management of Bruce Power’s defined benefit pension plan. Prior to working for Bruce Power, Patrick worked as a hedge fund derivatives trader at Aquilon Power.
Patrick holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Finance from Concordia University. He also completed the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program in 2003.

As Senior Vice President, Business Development and Corporate Affairs, Heather’s focus includes ensuring progress on the company’s Reconciliation Action Plan, and advancing hydroelectric generation development across the province in partnership with local Indigenous communities. She is also responsible for all stakeholder, public and media outreach, government relations, Indigenous relations, and branding activities in support of OPG’s business goals.
Heather has more than twenty-five years’ experience in the resource development, energy and electricity sectors. This includes roles as OPG’s VP of New Business Ventures & Electrification, VP of Environment, and Director of the Hydro Business Development Group. In these roles, she was instrumental in starting OPG’s electrification business as well as assembling the OPG team working to advance small modular nuclear reactors. As the hydro business development lead, Heather and her team successfully built northern power projects in partnership with Indigenous communities. She also previously worked in the Calgary office of Golder Associates supporting clients from the mining and oil & gas sectors.
Heather currently serves as a Director on the Boards of Atura Power, APPro and Electricity Canada, and is Vice Chair of Electricity Canada’s Generation Council. She holds an undergraduate and Master's degree in Science from Queen's University, as well as an MBA from the Rotman School of Management.

Kelly has also held leadership positions at Atura Power in Corporate Affairs, including stakeholder and Indigenous relations.
Prior to joining Atura Power, Kelly was a member of the Seven Seas Water senior leadership team, where she oversaw business development and managed mergers and acquisitions. Kelly also worked as a field engineer for GE Power & Water and Zenon Environmental.

Mr. Leitch joined Capstone in 2013 and was promoted to Senior Vice President, Operations in 2017 and Chief Operating Officer in January 2023. In this role, Mr. Leitch is responsible for oversight of all aspects of the operations of the company, including P&L for the operating businesses, health and safety, regulatory compliance, and major capital project delivery. Mr. Leitch also spearheaded the creation and implementation of Capstone's Operational Excellence Management System and production improvements across all assets. Prior to joining Capstone, he served as Project Manager for Graham Construction and Kiewit Corporation leading project teams for major infrastructure and mining projects. Brett A. Kruse Calpine Corporation’s Vice President of Market Design and Vice President, Governmental and Regulatory Affairs East/Midwest. In this role, he is responsible for Calpine’s interests in ISO-NE/NEPOOL, MISO, SPP, NYISO, and PJM for both market and reliability interests, NERC policy, and holds or has held seats on major committees in each of those markets. He has previously worked on nodal market development and implementation in ERCOT and California ISO and is responsible for all control area interactions and interconnection agreements for Calpine’s non-RTO/ISO market assets. He is an industry veteran with 40 years of experience in power plant operations and management, Balancing Area system operations and transmission/T&D management, asset management, wholesale electricity market design, compliance, and regulatory affairs and has testified before FERC and numerous state commissions. He served on the SERC Board of Directors for 14 years, served on the SPP Board/Members Committee for 7 years, and has experience in NPCC, MRO, ERCOT, and WECC as well. He currently holds a seat on the NERC Reliability and Security Technical Committee, serves on the NERC Inter-regional Transfer Capability Study Advisory Group, and sits on the Boards of several regional advocacy organizations. Brett has been on teams responsible for development of 7200 MWs of thermal, wind, solar, and storage developments representing capital investments of ~ $4.6 Billion, as well as M&A activity on over 6800 MWs of generation representing a capital outlay of ~$3.5 Billion. Prior to joining Calpine in early 2001, he held a variety of positions of increasing responsibility at Carolina Power & Light/Progress Energy, the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO), Reliant Energy, Houston Lighting & Power, and has worked as a consultant. Brett has a BS from the State University of New York, Albany, and has held a number of professional certifications including as a NERC System Operator (Reliability Coordinator), Senior Reactor Operator (both Westinghouse PWR and GE BWR reactor designs) and was a Certified Quality Auditor.

Guru Kalyanraman is part of Pearson Airport’s Energy & Environment team responsible for lifecycle management of the airport’s generation, utilities and microgrid. In his role, Guru supports the planning and transition of assets and energy sources to support airport expansion and achieving net-zero GHG goals.
Guru started his career in the energy sector at the Electricity Distributors Association supporting utility regulatory policy and regulatory finance. Later, as Manager, Corporate Strategy at Direct Energy he led the strategy work to support Direct Energy’s expansion into the energy retail and energy services business in North America. In 2010, as a Director at EDA, Guru led Ontario’s utility sector participation in the development of province wide conservation programs that were later delivered under saveONenergy brand.
From 2011 to 2017, Guru was a Director and later VP, leading Willis Energy Services and later CLEAResult’s growth in Canada as an energy efficiency program service provider. In 2017 Guru founded Enerva Energy Solutions Inc. an energy efficiency & GHG emission reduction solution service provider company.
Guru has been fortunate to have significant experience across the energy & utility value chain: from energy policy & utility regulatory to actual implementation of seeing those policies in action through demonstrated leadership in growing & leading businesses that provide customer facing perspectives.

Peter Ronson, P.Eng.
Chief Operating Officer, Markham District Energy Inc.
Peter Ronson is the Chief Operating Officer of Markham District Energy, which owns and operates two award-wining community energy systems serving over 15 million square feet of buildings in two of Markham’s developing urban centres.
In his role at Markham District Energy, Peter has direct responsibility for managing many aspects of the business, including four district energy plants, four combined heat and power installations, a hot water thermal storage facility, heat recovery heat pumps, the operations and ongoing expansion of MDE’s distribution system (over 55 km of distribution piping), and the current and expanding customers base of 45 customers sites to the network including a Hospital, Office buildings, community centres, data centres, hotels and many residential condominiums.
Peter’s 33-year background in the electricity and district energy sector includes development of other district energy systems and many distributed generation projects including cogeneration, district energy, bio-gas generation, diesel standby and peak shaving applications. He has an electrical engineering degree from Queen’s University.

Stephen is an in energy industry executive with twenty five years in the development, management, operation, acquisition and financing of environmental infrastructure, clean energy and renewable power generation, across Canada, the United States and in Europe. Stephen is also responsible for H2O Aboriginal affairs and in prior positions was directly responsible for consultation and engagement efforts, including the negotiation of agreements with various First Nation groups in Ontario and across Canada. For the prior eight years, as VP Corporate Development and Investor Relations, responsible for the strategic direction, acquisition, development and financing of hydroelectric projects across North America. Stephen led multi-disciplinary teams in the successful acquisition of sixteen U.S. hydro facilities representing almost 1,400 MW of nameplate capacity. Previously, Stephen was a Vice President with Competitive Power Ventures (“CPV”), Inc. where he was responsible for the development of all CPV’s natural gas-fired power generation development projects (and associated natural gas pipeline and transmission lines) and large scale wind projects, across Canada. Prior to joining CPV, Stephen was a member of the Probyn & Company and Clean Power Income Fund team responsible for business development and acquisitions. Stephen has experience working with the IESO, the Ministry of Energy, and various First Nations Groups across Canada and is a member of the Board of both the Association of Power Producers of Ontario and Ontario Water Power Association (Chair of the Board 2020-2024). Stephen has also been the APPrO Annual Conference Chair from 2005 through 2023. Stephen holds an MBA from the University of Toronto and an Honours B.A. degree in Economics from the University of Waterloo.

JULIEN WU

Julien has worked in the electricity sector for over 15 years, including 10+ years at Brookfield Renewable covering Canadian regulatory, market, and policy issues. He has direct experience intervening in energy board hearings, policy advocacy, ISO market designs, cross-border energy and capacity trades, as well as procurements and bilateral negotiations. Prior to Brookfield, he managed various federal electricity policy files at an industry association. He holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from McGill University, a master’s degree in Business Intelligence from HEC Montréal, and a master’s degree in sustainable energy policy from Carleton University where he is also completing a public policy PhD part-time. Julien grew up in Montreal but is living in Ottawa, and is fluent in English, French, and Mandarin.
AKIRA YAMAMOTO

Akira Yamamoto is TransAlta’s manager of regulatory and market policy with responsibility over Canada and US. He is responsible for market policy advocacy and engagement activities and has extensive experience in the electricity industry including with regulated utilities and the electricity market.
Akira has over eighteen years of experience in the electricity industry and over ten years in areas focused on regulatory matters, compliance, business development and environmental portfolio analytics in power generation. Mr. Yamamoto has worked on a number of regulatory proceedings before the including facility applications for a number of new power generation facilities and industrial system designations, performance based rate regulation, generic cost of capital and stranded assets, regulated rate option and distribution and transmission tariffs, water rates design, and capacity market design.
Akira has also worked for seven years in financial industry in equity market research, financial analysis and performance modelling. He graduated form the University of Calgary with a bachelors of commerce and science degrees and a graduate diploma in business administration. He is also a certified general accountant, chartered professional accountant, certified internal auditor and energy risk professional.
